Historic Ritz Theatre 1530 Newcastle Street, Brunswick, GA

Golden Isles Arts & Humanities is pleased to present the return of Peach State Opera with a special production – Operatizers: Dreams and Desires on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 3 pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Brunswick. This taste of some of the best classical and classic music is an afternoon not to missed.

Operatizers: Dreams and Desires is a production of opera, operetta, and classic musical theatre's most beloved arias, duets, trios, and ensembles complete with staging and narration. The theme is based around the dreamy and serene, as well as the tumultuous and passionate, with selections by Puccini, Donizetti, Verdi, Rossini, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Bernstein, and more. This production features many of Peach State Opera's most beloved performers, as well as a few fresh faces.

Peach State Opera, a touring company that brings opera to communities across Georgia and beyond was founded in 2009. The organization’s guiding principle is that all audiences deserve access to opera and that the opera world needs a place where emerging artists can express themselves. All their performances are condensed family-friendly versions and are performed in English. Golden Isles Arts & Humanities has been presenting Peach State Opera to our community for over 10 years and is thrilled to have them returning once again.

If you are new to opera or an aficionado, Operatizers: Dreams and Desires is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of the best that opera offers. Shrek The Musical Jr.

Brunswick High School 3885 Altama Ave., Brunswick, GA, United States

Shrek The Musical JR. follows an ogre named Shrek who has learned the hard way that “people hate the things they cannot understand.” For many years he has protected himself from the hurtful actions of those who are scared of him by living as a recluse in a cozy cesspit. One day, his peaceful swamp is disturbed by new tenants: fairytale misfits — including Pinocchio, the Ugly Duckling, the Wicked Witch, Peter Pan, the Three Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf — have been banished there by the villainous Lord Farquaad. In order to gain back his land, Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad to rescue the feisty princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fierce dragon. Setting off with his faithful companion, Donkey, Shrek begins the journey of a lifetime filled with adventure, romance, and hilarity.

With music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, Shrek The Musical is based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks Animation film and the book Shrek by William Steig.

SOGLO Brunswick Actor’s Theatre Presents: The Glass Menagerie

SOGLO Gallery & Brunswick Actors Theatre 1413 Newcastle Street, Brunswick, GA

The Glass Menagerie follows the lives of a family in St. Louis in the 1930s and is recalled as a memory from the narrator Tom. Amanda, the mother, is without her alcoholic husband, who has abandoned the family years before, and lives with her two children, Tom and Laura. The family supports itself and rents a modest apartment using Tom's wages at a local shoe factory.

Tom resents his mother for being so demanding and involved in his life. Amanda also inserts herself in her daughter's life by having her go to typing school, but Laura is too timid, so she walks around town instead of going to her classes, hoping her mother won't discover her secret.

Tennessee Williams's play The Glass Menagerie was first performed in 1944. It's defined as a "memory play," which means that the story is told through the reflection and memories of the main characters.
