✨ A Walk Back to the 1920s ✨

During February’s First Friday, we dedicated our first historic plaques of 2026 at 1519½–1521 & 1523 Newcastle Street — honoring the former homes of Bijou Café, Plaza Café, Ramsey’s Barber Shop, and Elite Beauty Shop.

In the 1920s, this block was the place to be! Across from the Ritz Theatre, flappers showed off fresh bob cuts, café society gathered over coffee, and dapper young men stopped by Ramsey’s before heading to OK Billiards to be part of the scene.

These buildings have weathered boom times and hard times — and today, we celebrate their stories continuing in Historic Old Town Brunswick.

Thank you to the Magnolia Garden Club and owners Peter & James Vivenzio for helping preserve Brunswick’s history.
