During Februaryโs First Friday, we dedicated our first historic plaques of 2026 at 1519ยฝโ1521 & 1523 Newcastle Street โ honoring the former homes of Bijou Cafรฉ, Plaza Cafรฉ, Ramseyโs Barber Shop, and Elite Beauty Shop.
In the 1920s, this block was the place to be! Across from the Ritz Theatre, flappers showed off fresh bob cuts, cafรฉ society gathered over coffee, and dapper young men stopped by Ramseyโs before heading to OK Billiards to be part of the scene.
These buildings have weathered boom times and hard times โ and today, we celebrate their stories continuing in Historic Old Town Brunswick.
