First Tuesday Gallery Showcase

BRUNSWICK, GA- A new event is coming to downtown Brunswick – the Gallery Showcase featuring The Wilcox Gallery in the historic Ritz Theatre, SoGlo Gallery, and the Brunswick Library Gallery. Scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month, these local galleries spaces will be hosting their exhibit openings with opportunities to meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, and stroll downtown in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The Gallery Showcase will kick off on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 5 pm to 7 pm.
The first Tuesday in October, patrons can stop in and see at the Brunswick Library the work of Linda Shannon, local painter whose work focuses on the local landscapes and sites of the Golden Isles. SoGlo Gallery is hosting “Best in Show”, a solo exhibition of the fun, playful and folk art style of Nathanel Thompson and his love of dogs. And the Wilcox Gallery in the Historic Ritz Theatre will be opening “The Art of Brunswick” celebrating the past, present and future of Brunswick with historic photos and memorabilia and artwork by local artists.
“We are excited to kick off this new event,” said Heather Heath, executive director of Golden Isles Arts & Humanities. “We want to give focus to the amazing art exhibits that happen monthly in our downtown.” Lynda Dalton Gallagher, owner of SoGlo Gallery, added “that we really want to create an experience that puts a spotlight on the incredible work that we all regularly have in our spaces. And hopefully bring more people into historic downtown Brunswick.”
In the past, these exhibit openings have happened during the annual First Friday event but as it has evolved into more of an outdoor event, the art galleries have had fewer folks coming in the doors. The Gallery Showcase is designed to make the art front and center while still encouraging people to come downtown and stroll from location to location and stay and grab some dinner at one of the many local restaurants. And with no street closures, parking will be much easier.
Make plans now to head to downtown Brunswick on the first Tuesday of October, October 1st from 5 to 7 pm and visit SoGlo Gallery at 1413 Newcastle Street, The Brunswick Library Gallery at 208 Gloucester Street, and the Wilcox Gallery in the historic Ritz Theatre at 1530 Newcastle Street.
