CINEMA GOURMET SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY OCTOBER 10, 2024 POSTPONED
With the threat of potential flooding and wind damage from Hurricane Milton forecast for Wednesday evening – Thursday, Golden Isles Arts & Humanities is postponing it’s Cinema Gourmet screening of Rebecca, scheduled for Thursday, October 10th until the following Thursday, October 17. All current ticket reservations will be honored for the new date. If patrons have tickets but are unable to attend the new date, please call 912.262.6934 or email info@goldenislesarts.org to make arrangements for a refund or to apply the ticket cost to another event. We are sorry for any inconvenience but want our patrons, staff and community to be safe.
Based on Daphne du Maurier’s 1939 novel of the same name, Rebecca is the story of young woman who marries a fascinating widower only to find out that she must live in the shadow of his former wife, Rebecca, who died mysteriously several years earlier. The young wife (Joan Fontaine) must come to grips with the terrible secret of her handsome, cold husband, Maxim De Winter (Laurence Olivier) and deal with the jealous, obsessed Mrs. Danvers (Judith Anderson), the housekeeper, who will not accept her as the mistress of the house. A Gothic fairy-tale with suspense created by character more than actions, Rebecca is the only film of Hitchcock’s to win the Best Picture Oscar.
Cinema Gourmet will offer five more screenings during the season: Walt Disney’s second animated and award winning feature, Pinocchio on November 14; Blade Runner, Ridley Scott’s dystopian futuristic thriller; Fences starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis on February 13; John Wayne and James Stewart in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance on March 13; and the film that made us all afraid to go swimming, Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg on April 10.
Seating is limited for the food, talk and movie, so audience members are encouraged to purchase their tickets early. The deadline for buying tickets for Rebecca is midnight on Monday, October 7th. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by phone with a credit card or in person at the Ritz Theatre, Tuesdays through Fridays 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
