Cinema Gourmet: Rebecca

October 10 @ 6:30 pm

BRUNSWICK, GA—Cinema Gourmet, Golden Isles Arts & Humanities’ popular series pairing delicious food with classic films, kicks off its season on Thursday, October 10, 2024 with the first film Hitchcock made in America, Rebecca. The film’s screening and discussion are paired with the culinary delights of Chef Judah Lynch and Indigo Coastal Shanty. The evening’s events begin with delicious food at 6:30 p.m.

Based on Daphne du Maurier’s 1939 novel of the same name, Rebecca is the story of young woman who marries a fascinating widower only to find out that she must live in the shadow of his former wife, Rebecca, who died mysteriously several years earlier. The young wife (Joan Fontaine) must come to grips with the terrible secret of her handsome, cold husband, Maxim De Winter (Laurence Olivier) and deal with the jealous, obsessed Mrs. Danvers (Judith Anderson), the housekeeper, who will not accept her as the mistress of the house. A Gothic fairy-tale with suspense created by character more than actions, Rebecca is the only film of Hitchcock’s to win the Best Picture Oscar.

Cinema Gourmet will offer five more screenings during the season: Walt Disney’s second animated and award winning feature, Pinocchio on November 14; Blade Runner, Ridley Scott’s dystopian futuristic thriller; Fences starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis on February 13; John Wayne and James Stewart in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance on March 13; and the film that made us all afraid to go swimming, Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg on April 10.

Seating is limited for the food, talk and movie, so audience members are encouraged to purchase their tickets early. The deadline for buying tickets for Rebecca is midnight on Monday, October 7th. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by phone with a credit card or in person at the Ritz Theatre, Tuesdays through Fridays 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Tickets may also be purchased securely online at www.goldenislesarts.org. Tickets for the talk and movie only may be purchased at the door the night of the screening for $7. The Ritz Theatre is located at 1530 Newcastle St. in downtown Brunswick. For more information, go to www.goldenislesarts.org or call (912) 262-6934.
