Cinema Gourmet: American Graffiti
April 11 @ 6:30 pm
Cinema Gourmet, Golden Isles Arts & Humanities’ popular series pairing delicious food with classic films, wraps up its season on Thursday, April 11, 2024 with American Graffiti, George Lucas’ classic coming of age film filled with classic cars, a stellar cast and a rockin’ soundtrack. The film’s screening and discussion are paired with the culinary delights of Chef Judah Lynch and Indigo Coastal Shanty. The evening’s events begin with delicious food at 6:30 p.m.
“Where were you in ’62?” In the twilight of innocence, and against the backdrop of early-1960s Modesto, California, four school friends–Curt, Steve, John, and Terry–bid farewell to their carefree lives as teenagers, on the last evening of summer break. Over the course of one long and hot September night, the long-time companions take their first steps into real life; they experience the powerful feelings of desire, disappointment, and love–and, ultimately–see the world in a different light. Everything takes place against the backdrops of the burger drive-in, a high school dance, a downtown ‘cruising’ strip, or other places all of which have a totally authentic feel for the place and time. But when morning comes, nothing will ever be the same again. Featuring many soon to become stars of screen and television – Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford, Cindy Williams, Charles Martin Smith, and Candy Clark – American Graffiti redefined the teen coming of age genre, and the success of the film allowed George Lucas to make his next project – a little sci-fi film called Star Wars.
