Cinema Gourmet: Raising Arizona
April 14, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Cinema Gourmet, Golden Isles Arts & Humanities’ popular series pairing delicious food with classic films, wraps up the 2021-2022 season on Thursday, April 14 2022 with the 1987 comedy Raising Arizona directed and produced by the Coen Brothers and starring Nicholas Cage and Holly Hunter. The film’s screening and discussion are paired with the culinary delights of Chef Judah Lynch and Indigo Coastal Shanty. The evening’s events begin with delicious food at 6:30 p.m.
Raising Arizona is a fast-paced farce about an unlikely pair who go to extreme lengths to have a child. When an incompetent robber, H.I. McDonough (Nicholas Cage) marries a policewoman, Edwina – Ed for short – (Holly Hunter), they discover that they are infertile. In order to appease his wife’s longings for a child, H.I. steals one of a set of quintuplets, but mayhem ensues when the child’s rich father, Nathan Arizona, sends a bounty hunter after the kidnapper. Joel and Ethan Coen’s thoughtful, exceedingly quotable comedy is also a display of the siblings’ virtuosity as filmmakers, both as technical craftsmen and amazing storytellers.
